You can work with any number of stitches, as desired. Mark the fabric with a circle divided into radial lines. The center hole will enlarge if you use fine yarn and pull the stitches tightly; a tight weave is needed.

As a buttonhole or simply decorative on your clothes.

How do you do that?

Fig. A: Pull the needle out at 1, slip it in at 2, pull it out again at 1, slip it in at 3, pull it out at 4, slip it in at 1, pull it out at 4, slip it in at 3 and pull it out at 5 to make the next backstitch stitch.

Repeat around the circle, alternating stitches and stitches in the center.

• You need a sharp pointed needle. In your trusted haberdashery they can advise you on this.
