What is it used for?

Used on large surfaces and backgrounds; smooth texture for shading and color matching. Dots can vary in length up to five horizontal threads. Stitches can be tilted through two vertical threads. It is usually worked on canvas with a single thread.

How do you do that?

Start at the upper right corner:

Fig. A: Pull the needle out at 1, count three threads (or more) on top and one to the right, and go down to 2, pull it out at 3 and slip it in at 4. Repeat to the left.

Fig. B: Work the second row from left to right: Bring the needle out to 5, two yarns (or more) below the base of the first stitch. Insert it in 6, in the same hole at the base of the next stitch to the right.

Repeat to the right. Work the next rows from one end to the other.

Repeat this point as many times as necessary.
