What is it used for?
It is used in medium sized block texture for large or medium sized areas. Each block is made up of five stitches. It can be worked in horizontal or diagonal rows, depending on the design.
How do you do that?
Start at the top left:
Fig. C: : Pull the needle out at 1, cast it in at 2, cast it out at 3, cast it in at 4, cast it out at 5, cast it in at 6, cast it up at 7, cast it in at 8, cast it in at 9, and cast it in at 10. These five stitches form a block. Repeat the block down to the right. A hole in the canvas is left empty between blocks.
Fig. D: Work the next row from the lower right to the upper left, fitting the new blocks between those of the previous row. The center stitch (the longest stitch) of each block starts in the empty stitch of the previous row. Work the next rows vertically.
