Tutorial for Canvas stitches: Alternating cross stitch. Double stitch. Fantasy stitch on canvas fabric

What is it used for?

A very interesting textured stitch that repeats over the entire surface, suitable for large backgrounds. All the top threads of the crosses should be in the same direction.

How do you do that?

Start at the top left:

Fig. A:Draw the needle out at 1, cast it in at 2, draw it out at 3 and cast it in at 4, making a rectangular cross stitch over three horizontal threads. Draw the needle out at 5, cast it in at 6, draw it out at 7, cast it in at 8, making a small cross stitch, and draw it out at 9, to start the next repeat to the right.

Fig. B: Work the next row from right to left. Make all the crosses with the dots in the same order as before. Work rectangular crosses under the small crosses, and vice versa.

Materials for alternate or double cross stitch embroidery:

• You need a sharp pointed needle. In your trusted haberdashery they can advise you on this.
• Canvas fabric
• Thimble, we know that it is not easy to get used to it, but the earlier you adapt, the better, you will avoid many punctures.
• Special thread for sewing. Or you can also use fine crochet yarn if it is to decorate something
• Frame, there are made of wood, plastic and silicone. Lately I spend the silicone ones because I like them better, but that goes to taste.
• Light, the more the better and to be able to be natural
