LESSON 229: GREEK STITCH - DIY. FANTASY STITCH

What is it used for?

Filling stitch. It works quickly and produces a dense, small-scale, ridge-like fabric.

How do you do that?

This stitch forms backstitch rows. It starts at the top left:

Fig. ACast off the needle at 1, cast it in at 2, cast it off at 3, cast it in at 4 and then cast it off at 5 to start the next round to the right. Insert the needle in 6 to cross the long slanting stitch you just made. Repeat to the right.

Fig. BTurn the work over to work the next row in the same way. Repeat as many times as necessary. All rows can be worked from left to right without turning the canvas, to achieve a different texture effect.

• Canvas fabric
