Large Star Stitch Tutorial

Here’s the Tutorial for large star stitch. Another proposal of fantasy stitch in hemp stitch that we propose you at Bordarycantar.com.

What is it used for?

Interesting fantasy stitch, usually working in borders or for backgrounds where you want to simulate stars or flowers. It works quickly. The blocks can be of any size and can be worked in various repetitive patterns or as single motifs.

It is a medium sized square stitch unit, faster to work than the star stitch; suitable for medium to large areas, and geometric backgrounds and patterns. It is best worked on single canvas because all eight stitches pass through the same central hole.

How do you do that?

Start at the top right, working the first row from right to left:

Fig. A: Pull the needle out at 1, put it in at 2 (center of the unit), pull it out at 3 and put it in at 2.

Diagram of Fig. B: Here is a sketch of Fig. B, for a better understanding:

Fig. B: Knit six more stitches, taking out the needle at 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, and inserting it always at 2. These eight stitches form a knitted unit.

Pull the needle back out at 8 to start the next unit to the left.

Fig. C: Stitch the next row from left to right, working the stitches in reverse order. Repeat these two rows as appropriate.

Fig. D: This stitch often reveals the canvas between the units: you can improve the look by working rows of stitching between the squares. This stitching can be in the same color or in a contrasting color if you prefer.

Embroidery materials Star Point large:

  • You need a sharp pointed needle. In your trusted haberdashery they can advise you on this.
  • Canvas fabric
  • Thimble, we know that it is not easy to get used to it, but the earlier you adapt, the better, you will avoid many punctures.
  • Special thread for sewing. Or you can also use fine crochet yarn if it is to decorate something
  • Frame, there are made of wood, plastic and silicone. Lately I spend the silicone ones because I like them better, but that goes to taste.
  • Light, the more the better and to be able to be natural
