Tutorial for Rhodes Stitch:

Here’s the Tutorial for Rhodes Stitch. Another proposal of fantasy stitch in hemp stitch that we propose you at Bordarycantar.com.

What is it used for?

Suitable for medium and large areas and backgrounds. Filling or decorative pattern.

Raised stitch that can be worked over a square of any number of strands; suitable for medium to large areas, or individual ornaments and geometric patterns. The center holding stitch is optional, but is useful on large squares where the top yarn is quite long. These instructions are for working around the square counterclockwise, although you can also work clockwise if you wish.

How do you do that?

Start in the lower left corner.

Roda point diagram . Here is a sketch of Fig. A for better understanding

Fig. A: Draw the needle out at 1 and cast it into 2, in the opposite corner of the square. Draw the needle out in 3, one st to the right of 1, and cast it in 2, in the opposite corner of the square. Draw the needle out on 3, one strand to the right of 1, and cast it into 4, one strand to the left of 2. Cast on as many stitches as you need to cover the square, moving counterclockwise around the edge of the square as shown. In a square with six strands in each direction, like the one shown here, the last stitch will be from A to B.

Fig. B. Optional: If you need to, pull the needle out near the center of the square and insert it back over the last slanted stitch, tying the Rhodes square. It is impossible to see the mesh of the canvas when you make this stitch, so you must calculate its position by eye using the blunt end of the needle.

And here is a sample of how it looks finished:

Embroidery materials Rhodes Stitch

  • You need a sharp pointed needle. In your trusted haberdashery they can advise you on this.
  • Canvas fabric
  • Thimble, we know that it is not easy to get used to it, but the earlier you adapt, the better, you will avoid many punctures.
  • Special thread for sewing. Or you can also use fine crochet yarn if it is to decorate something
  • Frame, there are made of wood, plastic and silicone. Lately I spend the silicone ones because I like them better, but that goes to taste.
  • Light, the more the better and to be able to be natural
