LESSON 250: MILL EYELET POINT. CATALINA WHEEL STITCH. DIY CANVAS FANTASY STITCH
14 de August de 2023Tutorial for the mill eyelet stitch - Catalina wheel stitch:
Here’s the Tutorial for the mill eyelet - Catalina wheel stitch. Another proposal of fantasy stitch in hemp stitch that we propose you at Bordarycantar.com.
What is it used for?
Very striking, non-directional decorative motif or pattern, suitable for large areas. These ornaments can be scattered or arranged irregularly and the background can be filled with medium stitch or similar. It is best worked in single hemp as eight stitches need to be passed through a single hole.
How do you do that?
Start on the right:
Diagram of the points in Fig. A: Here is a sketch of Fig. A for better understanding:
Fig. A: Cast off at 1, cast on at 2, cast off at 3, cast on at 4, cast off at 5, cast on at 6, cast off at 7, cast on at 8, cast off at 9, cast on at 2, cast off at 10, cast on at 11, one strand under 2, cast off at 12, cast on at 13, cast off at 14, cast on at 15. These eight stitches form one quarter of the ornament.
Fig. B: Turn the canvas 90 degrees and work the next quarter in the same way. Repeat two more times. Turn the canvas upwards, as at the beginning, and pull the needle out at the end of the long arm to the left to start the next motif.
We continue with the Tutorial for the Millinery Eye - Catalina Wheel Stitch:
Fig. C: Work the next row of pinwheels from left to right, with the ends of the long arms sharing holes with the top ones. Repeat these two rows as appropriate.
You can fill the spaces with diagonal stitches as shown, always pulling the needle out at the edge of the space and tucking it in towards the centre. Alternatively, the spaces between ornaments can be filled with medium stitch.

Embroidery materials Punto de Ojete de Molino-Punto de Rueda Catalina:
- You need a sharp pointed needle. In your trusted haberdashery they can advise you on this.
- Canvas fabric
- Thimble, we know that it is not easy to get used to it, but the earlier you adapt, the better, you will avoid many punctures.
- Special thread for sewing. Or you can also use fine crochet yarn if it is to decorate something
- Frame, there are made of wood, plastic and silicone. Lately I spend the silicone ones because I like them better, but that goes to taste.
- Light, the more the better and to be able to be natural
