Here’s the Tutorial for Petal stitch. Another proposal of fantasy stitch in hemp stitch that we propose you at Bordarycantar.com.

Last video of stitches for canvas fabric.

What is it used for?

Decorative pattern or motif, non-directional, highly original, quick to produce and suitable for large areas. Petal ornaments can be scattered irregularly and spaces can be filled with a suitable background stitch. It is best worked in single stranded hemp, as you need to pass 20 stitches through the same hole, although the petal thread can be quite fine. Each petal motif is worked on a square of equal number of strands in each direction (shown here with 10 strands).

How do you do that?

It starts at the top right of the square:

Diagram of the points in Fig. A: Here is a sketch of Fig. A for better understanding:

Diagram of the points of the Fig. A

Fig. A: Pull the needle out at 1, put it in the centre of the square, pull it out at 2, put it in the centre, pull it out at 3 and put it in the centre. Knit another 17 stitches counterclockwise around the square, taking the needle out at stitches 4-20 and putting it in the centre. Pull it out in one corner and start the next motif.

Fig. B: To fill in the trimmings, pull the needle out at 1, one strand above the centre of the square. Pass the needle under five strands from each corner in turn, around a spiral, without piercing the canvas, to fill in the space. Group the threads of the spiral close together so that the canvas does not show through. If the canvas is visible in the corners of the squares, make straight stitches to hide the spaces, as shown in the picture.

Embroidery materials Petal stitch:

  • You need a sharp pointed needle. In your trusted haberdashery they can advise you on this.
  • Canvas fabric
  • Thimble, we know that it is not easy to get used to it, but the earlier you adapt, the better, you will avoid many punctures.
  • Special thread for sewing. Or you can also use fine crochet yarn if it is to decorate something
  • Frame, there are made of wood, plastic and silicone. Lately I spend the silicone ones because I like them better, but that goes to taste.
  • Light, the more the better and to be able to be natural
